Running starts...
On March 25th, the torch relay for this year's Olympics will start in the Japanese prefecture of Fukushima. Postponed by a year due to the pandemic, the torch run is to take place in the region, which was badly damaged by the earthquake and tsunami. Under the motto "Hope Lights Our Way" the flame is to be carried through all prefectures. Eurosports quotes the organizers: "Against the background of the corona pandemic, the fire will also symbolize the light at the end of the tunnel. It is a beacon of hope for the world before the Tokyo games, which in turn is a symbol of resilience, unity and of the solidarity of mankind ". It should be problematic that neither the corona pandemic is over, nor the disaster of 2011. For me a typical example of how a government (and the Olympic Committee) wants to bring about an end that does not exist. To those affected in the areas it will certainly seem cynical. The question remains, how long will the disaster last and who will determine when it will end?
An interesting interview with Mr. Konno on the subject of living in contaminated areas is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sWWaw34VBw
